Preparing to reconstruct the road of national importance for national defence in Švenčionys District

In Švenčionys District, near Pabradė Polygon, almost 6 km section of the regional road No 4415 Pabradė–Meškerinė (from 5.3 to 11.1 km) is being prepared for overhaul. The Lithuanian Road Administration has launched the public procurement for the preparation of the technical detailed design, supervision of the project implementation and execution of the works for the overhaul of this road section. It is planned that, following the successful completion of the public procurement procedures, the project will be implemented during the period 2023–2024.

The Road Administration will continue the major infrastructure development works started in 2023, with other new projects planned to improve traffic safety

In order to improve the infrastructure of the roads of national importance, according to the 2023 Action Plan of the public limited liability company Lithuanian Road Administration (hereinafter – Road Administration), in accordance with the lists of priority queues and taking into account the available funding, it is planned to repair/reconstruct 300 km of roads of national importance in the course of this year, asphalting 110 km of gravel roads, repairing 27 bridges, and installing other traffic safety measures (intersections, crossings, pedestrian crossing points, wildlife protection systems etc.).

Lithuanian Road Administration became a public limited liability company

The State Enterprise Lithuanian Road Administration (hereinafter – the Road Administration) was reorganised into a public limited liability company. The new legal form will enter into force on 2 January 2023. After the reorganisation, all its shares will continue to be owned by the State. The Road Administration will also remain on the list of enterprises important for national security, while roads of national importance will remain on the list of installations and assets important for national security and will continue to be owned as state property.

The SE Lithuanian Road Administration has launched a public procurement for the reconstruction of the 56.83 to 72.50 km section of the A5 Kaunas-Marijampolė-Suvalkai (Via Baltica) main road. Following successful procurement procedures, works are expected to start in mid-2023.

Construction works begin on a 13 km long section of the pedestrian and cycle path from Smiltyne to Juodkrante

Two agreements concluded by the SE Lithuanian Road Administration (hereinafter – the Road Administration) with a contractor for the management of two sections of the pedestrian and cycle path in Neringa, from Smiltyne to Juodkrante (sections from 2.104 to 2.956 km and from 2.956 to 15.567 km), have entered into force. The works are scheduled for completion in July 2023, with a total agreement value of €5.8 million including VAT.

The agreement for the reconstruction of another section of Via Baltica from Marijampolė to the Polish border entered into force

The agreement of the SE Lithuanian Road Administration for the reconstruction of the section of the A5 Kaunas-Marijampolė-Suvalkai (Via Baltica) main road from 79.00 to 85.00 km entered into force. Construction works on this section are scheduled to start later this year and finish in the autumn of the next year. The value of the agreement is around €66.7 million.

Maintenance of the roads of national importance during the winter

In winter, all road users must pay attention to changing weather conditions and precipitation, which have a direct impact on the driving conditions. At the same time, most drivers probably notice that some roads are cleaned and sprinkled with sand or salt more often, while other roads are sprinkled less often. There are also roads which are not sprinkled at all with anti-slip substances, only excess snow is cleared.

Work of reconstruction of the section of Via Baltica from Marijampolė to the Polish border is being started

Today, a capsule was buried in the kilometre 76 of the highway A4 Kaunas-Marijampolė-Suwałki, which is part of the international Via Baltica highway. This capsule marks the symbolic beginning of the reconstruction of one section of this road from the kilometre 72.50 to the kilometre 79. This section is planned to be reconstructed into four lanes, and the first in the country “green bridge” (for animal migration), a tunnel passage, intersection, connecting roads and other road elements are planned to be equipped. It is planned that the construction work in this section will be completed in the autumn next year. The value of the contract is about 55.8 million euros.
