Today, a capsule was buried in the kilometre 76 of the highway A4 Kaunas-Marijampolė-Suwałki, which is part of the international Via Baltica highway. This capsule marks the symbolic beginning of the reconstruction of one section of this road from the kilometre 72.50 to the kilometre 79. This section is planned to be reconstructed into four lanes, and the first in the country “green bridge” (for animal migration), a tunnel passage, intersection, connecting roads and other road elements are planned to be equipped. It is planned that the construction work in this section will be completed in the autumn next year. The value of the contract is about 55.8 million euros.

The first snow that has fallen, the pretty cold weather, thaw and rain – such changes in weather conditions in the approach of winter should not surprise drivers. But still, for some drivers, the changeable weather becomes an unpleasant surprise. The State Enterprise Lithuanian Road Administration (hereinafter – the Road Administration) reminds drivers what they should remember before getting behind the wheel when the weather conditions are constantly changing.

The SE Lithuanian Road Administration (hereinafter – the Road Administration) announces a public procurement for the development of asphalt mixtures suitable for Lithuanian climatic conditions using the rubber of recycled tires and for the determination of their operational characteristics in order to assess the possibilities of further use. The service providers participating in the open tender procedure are called to submit tenders by November 30 of this year.

Under the chairmanship of the Baltic Road Association (BRA) by the SE Lithuanian Road Administration (hereinafter – the Road Administration), the second meeting this year of the Baltic Road Builders Council was arranged.

During ten months of 2022, 25 bridges and overpasses, which are located in the network of roads of national importance, have already been repaired. About 23 million euros have been allocated for their repair. There are plans to repair another 27 bridges and overpasses in 2023 (the total planned value is about 50 million euros), which are located in the network of roads of national importance, and in 2024 – 35 bridges and overpasses (the total planned value is about 72 million euros).

The contract for the reconstruction of the middle bridge over the river Neris (A. Meškinis bridge) near Kaunas has become effective. Under the contract signed by the SE Lithuanian Road Administration (hereinafter – the Road Administration), the bridge located on the section of the highway A1 Vilnius-Kaunas-Klaipėda from the kilometre 99.03 to the kilometre 100.47, also the overpass over Jonavos street and the accesses of the bridge must be repaired within 23 months from the entry into force of the contract. It is planned that the work on the bridge will start this year and will be completed by the end of 2024.

The contract of the SE Lithuanian Road Administration for the reconstruction of the section of the highway A5 Kaunas-Marijampolė-Suwałki (Via Baltica) from the kilometre 72.50 to the kilometre 79 has become effective. It is planned that the construction work on this road section will start this year and will be completed in the autumn of next year. The value of the contract is about 55.8 million euros.

Next year, 30 new road weather stations (hereinafter – RWS) are planned to be installed on the roads of national importance. The new RWSs will be installed in the places of the roads of national importance which are selected taking into account the importance of the road, the traffic volume, the level of maintenance, as well as the density of the existing RWSs and geographical circumstances, which affect planning of winter road maintenance works.

The section of the highway A2 Vilnius–Panevėžys from the overpass at Panevėžys bypass, which stretches through Šilagalis village and ending at the boundary of Panevėžys city has been repaired. After the repair work was done, travelling has become smoother and safer.

On October 20, the State Enterprise Lithuanian Road Administration (hereinafter – the Road Administration) organises the National Reflector Day to remind about the use of reflectors and other safe traffic measures. This day is commemorated every year on the third Thursday of October.
