World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims: Keep Sparking

2019 11 15

On November 17 a social campaign Keep Sparking to remember those killed on the world‘s roads was held in three largest Lithuanian cities Vilnius, Klaipėda and Panevėžys. The focus of the current campaign is to arrange candles in the shape of a heart.

The events were started by Mass celebrated in various churches and by creating a big heart of candles on the main square of the city.
This Day aims to pay society‘s attention to everybody‘s individual responsibility for their own behaviour on the road and keeping to the Road Traffic Regulations in order to avoid meaningless victims. The educational part of the event will include experiences shared by representatives of the  emergency services.

The World Day has been commemorated since 26 November 2005 on the third Sunday of November each year. It also aims to express solidarity and mental support to families suffering from the loss of family members, friends and many other people in road accidents.
The organizers of the event are the Lithuanian Road Administration under the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Club of Young Road Engineers Kelelis.
