The winners of the Battle of Minds ‘Safe Students 2021’ have been determined

2021 12 17

The winners of the Battle of Minds on the topic of traffic safety “Safe Students 2021”, that was organised by the State Enterprise Lithuanian Road Administration (hereinafter – the Road Administration), are already known. The winners in the Aukštaitija region are the team from Raguva Gymnasium in Panevežys district, in the Central Lithuania – the team from Lazdijai Motiejus Gustaitis Gymnasium, in Samogitia – the team from Tverai Gymnasium of Rietavas municipality.

In the Battle of Minds ‘Safe Students 2021’, that was organised for the first time, Lithuania was divided into three territories – Aukštaitija, Central Lithuania and Samogitia. During the stage 1, three school teams with the highest number of points were selected in each of them. These selected teams entered the second stage. During the stage 2, one school team with the highest number of points – the winner – was selected in each territory.

51 school teams have registered for and successfully participated in the Battle of Minds. According to Remigijus Lipkevičius, Director of the Road Administration, such a high level of involvement and activity from the part of the school communities shows that the topic of traffic safety is relevant to everyone – to both teachers and students, and especially when the Road Traffic Rules are presented in a different form than usually.

During the individually organised stages of the Battle of Minds, the school teams had to overcome really difficult tasks, which required not only knowledge of the Road Traffic Rules, but also considerable concentration. The task of applying theoretical knowledge in practical situations attracted the greatest interest and created the biggest intrigue. Although the participants were indeed prepared to take part in the Battle of Minds, they have refreshed their knowledge and repeated the basic rules, the practical task still showed that it is not enough just to know the Road Traffic Rules. It is also important to be able to apply them correctly, especially when there is no time for long reflection to make a decision.

‘Senior students (14-17 years old) start driving vehicles independently. Some of them ride bicycles and electric scooters, others – mopeds, some of them are more experienced, while others have less experience. During this period, their driving skills are developing. The skills, that have developed at the very beginning, remain for a long time. Therefore, in order to have cultural road users, we have to pay close attention to student education and the improvement of the skills that have already developed. That was the main task of the Battle of Minds’, – says Remigijus Lipkevičius, Director of the Road Administration.
During the stages 1 and 2 of the Battles of Mind, students also performed the task ‘Truth – False‘, during which they assessed the propositions provided, searched for traffic-related words in the field of letters. And the tasks of stage 2 were also supplemented by a logic puzzle that needed to be solved. This task required precise knowledge of the Road Traffic Rules and mathematical skills.

A total of 204 students in grades 7-10 participated in the Battle of Minds ‘Safe Students 2021’. They were prepared by 51 team leaders. According to the regulations of the Battle of Minds, the winning school teams will be awarded special prizes established by the Road Administration.
