The installed anti-glare system for roads will also ensure traffic safety on the section of the highway A2 Vilnius–Panevėžys.

2022 10 24

The section of the highway A2 Vilnius–Panevėžys from the overpass at Panevėžys bypass, which stretches through Šilagalis village and ending at the boundary of Panevėžys city has been repaired. After the repair work was done, travelling has become smoother and safer.

Simple repairs of the section, which is more than 4 kilometres long, have been performed after the implementation of the contract “For the work of simple repair on both sides of the road of the section of the highway A2 Vilnius–Panevėžys from the kilometre 128.420 to the kilometre 132.550″ that was signed back in October 2021 between the SE Lithuanian Road Administration (hereinafter – the Road Administration) and the contractor. The value of the contract is more than 2.8 million euros including VAT.

According to Remigijus Lipkevičius, director of the Road Administration, this section of the road was repaired according to the priority order of the sections of the highways to be reconstructed and repaired. There were surface irregularities and deep ruts on the road section, and because of this, travellers experienced a lot of inconvenience. After this road section of more than 4 km was repaired, both the quality and safety of riding have improved.

Under the contract signed by the Road Administration, the asphalt pavement on both sides of the road on the section of the highway A2 Vilnius-Panevėžys from the kilometre 128.420 to the kilometre 132.550 was repaired, also road markings were renewed, part of the road signs were changed, two unsafe road exits, located on the left side of the road, were eliminated, the surface of the bus stop platform, located on the kilometre 129.51 (on the side of Šilagalis village), was repaired, and, on the left side (kilometre 132.49), the entrance to the bus stop was repaired. Also, the safety barriers on the central reservation of the road were rebuilt using the existing barriers and by replacing the damaged barriers with new ones.

The anti-glare system for roads was equipped on this road section, on the central reservation. The system is fixed on the existing safety barriers of the road. This system is a measure that improves traffic safety. It protects drivers from the glare of headlights of oncoming vehicles. Since the central reservation of this road section is narrow, during dark hours of the day, vehicle drivers are dazzled by other oncoming vehicles. It is more difficult for dazzled drivers to notice the most vulnerable road users or animals on the road.
