The Campaign Be Safe, Careful and Healthy Attended by More Than 500 Visitors

2021 06 17

SE Lithuanian Road Adminstration (later – the Road Administration) together with its partners has organized traffic safety campaign Be Safe, Careful and Healthy, which had more than 500 attendees. The campaign aimed to pay attention to the importance of traffic safety, to encourage mindful behaviour of all road and street users, to wear reflective vests, to fasten their seat belts, to respect each other on the roads. In total, 7 events were organized.

“This campaign aims to reach out to the community members in remote places of Lithuania: children, teenagers, adults and elderly people. Special attention should be paid to the education of the most vulnerable society members, i.e. elderly people and children. We, therefore, hope that the experience and knowledge acquired during the events will help to be safer, more careful and healthier on the road,” says the Director of the Road Administration Remigijus Lipkevičius.

The visitors had an opportunity to test safety belt and vehicle turnover simulation equipment. They were also reminded how to wear reflectors correctly. As it turned out a lot of visitors wear reflective items in the dark correctly and are well aware of their role in improving traffic safety.

A lot of attention during the event was paid to the proper technical condition of the bicycle as well as to bicycle and e-scooter riders. It should be pointed out that the same rules and regulations are applied to bicycle and e-scooter drivers in Lithuania. Most of them wear safety vests; however, very few know that a helmet is compulsory for those under 18 and that children can ride their bicycles on the carriageway only from the age of 8 if accompanied by an adult.

During the campaign, one could answer questionnaires, take crosswords and quizzes and win a special prize, which would not only remind of the campaign in the future, but will come in handy on the road.

The campaign, which took place in the regions of Kaunas, Marijampolė, Alytus and Vilnius on 1-11 June, was initiated by the Road Administration and was held together with its main partners, the Police and the Public Health Bureaus in cooperation with fire and rescue institutions, emergency services, non-governmental organizations, local authorities, cultural centres. The campaign was joined by youth and other non-governmental organizations.
