2021 09 14

SE Lithuanian Road Administration (later – the Road Administration) has completed the implementation of the reconstruction project of regional road No 4033 leading to a tourist attraction place the Hill of Crosses. Under the project, a section from km 0.018 to 1.230 of access road from road Riga-Tauragė-Kaliningrad was reconstructed and a pedestrian and bicycle lane was constructed.

When constructing a pedestrian and bicycle lane, the total length of which is 1.2 km, rest areas with benches for the convenience of travellers were set up. The lane is adapted to the needs of disabled people: tactile paving for the blind and partially sighted is used.

According to the Director of the Road Administration Remigijus Lipkevičius, the Hill of Crosses is visited by plenty of local and foreign tourists; therefore, it is of utmost importance to ensure safe and convenient transportation for visitors. It is obvious that this route is very important for elderly people and pilgrims; therefore, convenient rest areas with benches were constructed.

The Hill of Crosses is a unique tourist attraction place. According to the data of the Šiauliai Tourism and Business Information Centre, in 2019 the Hill of Crosses was visited by one third of a million (324, 000) visitors.
