Resuming Infrastructure Improvements on the Lithuanian-Latvian Border

To connect the roads of Latvian and Lithuanian regional centres, the reconstruction of three state road sections, the total length of which makes up 17 km, has been resumed after winter interruption. It is planned to complete the works this year. The connecting roads are reconstructed under the joint Lithuanian-Latvian project EASYCROSSING.

During the project implementation, state significance national road Ežerė–Mažeikiai section 0.00 – 6.89 km,  state significance regional road Žeimelis–Vileišiai–Adžiūnai section 0.00 – 5.1 km and Pandėlys–Suvainiškis–Nereta section13.30 – 18.30 km are reconstructed.

Currently, final road reconstruction works on the road Ežerė–Mažeikiai are carried out. Archeological investigations in the Žeimeliai town on state significance regional road Žeimelis–Vileišiai–Adžiūnai and the bridge reconstruction works on the river Beržtalis have been started. Road reconstruction works on the state significance regional road Pandėlys–Suvainiškis–Nereta are continued, and it is planned to asphalt pave a road section of ca 2 km.

During the project implementation, the Lithuanian Road Administration under the Ministry of Transport and Communications together with Latvian road specialists are planning to reconstruct 6 Lithuanian and Latvian state road sections, the total length of which makes up 45.93 km, out of which 19.28 km are on the Lithuanian territory.

The project aims at the improvement of conveniently connected road infrastructure of both countries‘ regional centres, sustainable development, uniform geographical development of Latvian and Lithuanian border regions, maintaining proper transport infrastructure for the mobility of labour force, services and goods as well as tourism promotion.
