2019 08 05

The Contract-Agreement between the Lithuanian Road Administration under the Ministry of Transport and Communications and JSC Tiltuva on repair works of a wooden bridge across the longest lake in Lithuania Asveja lake (in Dubingiai Molėtai district) has been signed. It is one out of the three wooden bridges on the state significance roads in the country. The contract value is more than 1.6 MEUR. The Contractor shall complete reconstruction works of a 75.4-metre and 8.4-metre wide bridge across lake Asveja by the end of 2020.

Currently, it is prohibited to use this bridge by vehicles heavier than 5 tonnes.

This wooden bridge has been included on the list of immovable cultural heritage objects. Therefore,  replacements made during repair works will be performed according to the requirements stipulated  by the Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture, which are applied to the objects under protection.

According to the data from the Molėtai Tourist and Business Information Centre, it is the first 75.4-metre-long wooden bridge  in Lithuania, which was built by courtesy of the first President of Lithuania Antanas Smetona. Before this, a ferry used to carry people.
