Issuing Permits to Close Roads or to Restrict Traffic on State Road Network

2021 07 02

SE Lithuanian Road Administration (later – the Road Administration) reminds that when a company intends to perform works (road repair, reconstruction, construction of engineering networks) or to organize an event (film shooting, sports competition, fair, campaign, etc.) on state significance road network, it shall apply to the owner of the road, i.e. the Road Administration, for a permit to close the road or to restrict traffic on it.

Two types of traffic organization may be introduced when an event is held or works are performed. It can be  either by opening the road for traffic according to a traffic organization scheme or by closing the road and redirecting traffic to other roads (bypasses).

Those planning to perform works or hold an event according to a typical traffic organization scheme, should fill in the form that can be found at the website of the Road Administration.

To obtain a permit according to an individual (special) scheme, the approval of the Road Administration shall be granted. The approval process may take some time; thus one shall apply well in advance. An application for a permit to restrict traffic shall be submitted by e-mail . When the traffic organization scheme is approved, the form at the website www.vialietuva.lt shall be filled-in. Advice and samples on how to prepare a proper scheme may be found at website of the Road Administration.

Both typical and special traffic organization schemes are drawn up in accordance with the provisions of Road Traffic Regulations, Road Signs and Vertical Marking Rules and other legal acts. Traffic restrictions may be introduced only pursuant to the provisions of the Lithuanian Republic laws and other legal acts. Upon payment of pertaining fees, a permit is issued.
