Implementation of the Lithuanian and Latvian Joint Project Easycrossing Completed
The Latvian and Lithuanian Joint Project ‘Improvement of Cross Border Road Infrastructure for Well- connected Regional Centers and Facilitated Labor Mobility in the Border Areas’ (later – the Project) has been completed. The Project was implemented by SE Lithuanian Road Administration in cooperation with the Latvian Ministry of Transport represented by state-owned limited liability company Latvijas Valsts Ceļi (a partner in charge).
During the project implementation, 6 Lithuanian and Latvian state road sections, the total length of which is almost 46 km, were reconstructed:
• national road No 163 Ežerė–Mažeikiai section from km 0.00 to km 9.188 (from Mažeikiai to Latvian border) and road No P106 Ezere–Embūte–Grobiņa section from km 0.07 to km 13.95;
• regional road No 2912 Žeimelis–Vileišiai–Adžiūnaisection from km 0.0 to km 5.1 (from Žeimelis to Latvian border) and road No V1028 Bauska–Bērzi–Lithuanian border section from km 7.44 to
km 14.62;
• regional road No 3647 Pandėlys–Suvainiškis–Nereta section from km 13.30 to km 18.30 (from Vilkoliai to Taručiai), road No P75 Jēkabpils–Lithuanian border section from km 56.08 to km 60.50 and road No V961 Nereta–Sleķi section from km 0.10 to km 1.15.
The overall objective of the Project is to promote workers‘ mobility and geographical integrity on the Lithuanian-Latvian border areas, trading and tourism. It aims to develop proper infrastructure for the facilitated mobility of labour force, goods and services and to decrease such long-term regional development obstacles as low quality of the road network, etc.
In 2014–2020 nine million euros of the European Regional Development Fund were allocated for Interreg V-A Latvian and Lithuanian programme Project implementation, out of which 4.5 million euros for Lithuania.
The implemented Project informs about employment institutions in Latvia and Lithuania, thereby facilitating end-users to look for job opportunities on both sides of the border.
