2021 10 14

From October 15, the operators of the Information Department of the State Enterprise Lithuanian Road Administration (hereinafter – the Road Administration) start working under the rhythm of winter, and will focus on road condition monitoring and prompt information of drivers about traffic conditions that often change in autumn and winter.

Notification about the state of roads and traffic conditions will be published on the website eismoinfo.lt at least twice a day – at 6:00 AM and 4:00 PM. The morning notification will inform about the current traffic conditions in the morning and expected traffic conditions for the rest of the day until the evening, while in the evening notification more attention will be paid to traffic conditions, that are expected during the dark hours of the day. In cases where weather conditions will be changing and the traffic conditions will be getting more complicated, the notifications will be announced on the website four times a day (at 6:00 AM, at 9:00 AM, at 1:00 PM, and at 4:00 PM), and even more often, if necessary.

Travellers can find on the website of the Road Administration www.eismoinfo.lt all key information about the roads of national importance, notifications on traffic conditions and restrictions on roads due to work, as well as information from road weather stations, video cameras, intensity sensors and other facilities located near the roads of national importance. Additional information from the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service, Lithuanian Police, General Assistance Centre comes to the website.

In autumn, when weather conditions are changing, drivers are asked to note that it is always important to assess, at the beginning of the trip, the state of the road surface and meteorological conditions, and drive at a safe speed rather than at the maximum permitted speed. If there is no need, drivers are advised to avoid overtaking of other vehicles, and attentiveness should be borne in mind when changing between lanes, and to keep safe distance from the other vehicle.

Pedestrians, bicycle riders and other road users should also remember that, during this period, a reflector, vest or other light-reflecting element is a required rather than a recommended accessory. We also note that it is mandatory for pedestrians to move on footpaths and sidewalks, and when there are none, then on the sides of the road in the direction that is opposite to the direction of movement of vehicles, and they must walk across the street or road only when they are sure that it is safe to do so.

All the roads of national importance are cleared of snow and sprinkled taking into account the road maintenance levels.
